The Leader In Me

Put First Things First to ensure academic and life success for our students

  • Ensure that your child attends school daily. Good attendance means that every student is learning. Good attendance promotes responsibility. Set a goal of 96% or better attendance or better yet, 100% attendance (0 absences, 0 tardies, 0 early leaves).
  • Use positive behavior supports for your child at home and promote the 4 B's, be safe, be respectful, be responsible, be proactive!
  • Teach the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Kids.
  • Ensure that your child reads at least 30 minutes every day.
  • Dialogue with your child every day and ask how his or her day went.
  • Communicate with your child's teacher frequently.
  • Most importantly, celebrate your child's successes, no matter how sm

We partnered with Playworks this year in an effort to make recess time fun, safe, and inclusive. Our students used healthy ways to resolve conflict, learned lots of fun and engaging games and got to pick their own play area.

The Art of Play

We continue our partnership with the Olympic Committee and Ready, Set, Gold! Ms. Tasha Danvers is the former olympian who works with our fifth grade students to prepare them for the Fitnessgram and raise their awareness of physical activity and healthy habits

Through the LA Chamber of Commerce and Next LA, our 1st grade students attended school on Saturdays where they read with volunteers and created beautiful art pieces. Our kids and the volunteers enjoyed the interactions and the love for learning was evident!

 Parent-Teacher Conference Dates: November 5th - 9th, 2018

I believe that all children can learn when they are provided with a rich education and opportunities to achieve. I grew up in South Los Angeles not too far from 49th Street School. I chose to become an educator and to become the Principal here for several reasons. One, because I wanted to give back to a community a lot like the one I grew up in and that nurtured me. Two, because I often saw myself in many of the children who I worked with and work with today. Three, because I work with a very dynamic and dedicated group of individuals who work very hard, day in and day out, to ensure that our students receive a quality education that will ensure that every student's pipeline to college is clear.

Parents, guardians, and community members, I applaud you for your dedication to your children. I admire your efforts and fight. I look forward to serving you and to working with you, side by side, so that together we can foster a love for learning, success, and relationship building in our children.
